Personnel committee hears Hendersonville director candidate; no formal action, special meeting planned

The Sumner County Library Personnel Committee met July 15 in Galton and heard from a candidate being considered for the Hendersonville director position, but committee members did not ask questions and no formal action was taken.

The personnel committee convened with a quorum and the candidate attended in person to be available for questions. Personnel Committee Chair said the committee "do[es] have a quorum, for the committee," and reminded attendees that committee decisions are not final until approved by the full library board. Committee members Erica Kramer and Joanna Daniels were present.

Committee members said two board members had reached out to the candidate ahead of the meeting but were not present to ask questions in person during the session. The chair noted the candidate remained willing to serve and that the personnel committee had expected directors and board members to contact applicants before the committee convened.

No motion was made to advance the Hendersonville candidate to the full board during the meeting. Instead, the chair announced a special call meeting would be scheduled to allow additional board members to participate; the chair said she would send an email to board members about that meeting. A Friday meeting at 3:30 p.m. was mentioned; the meeting location was not specified during the session.

The committee also reiterated that, under board policy, the personnel committee chair reviews applications and forwards names to the personnel committee for interviews; once the personnel committee chooses a candidate, that candidate is pushed to the full board for a final vote.

Next steps: the chair will notify board members about the special call meeting so more board members can participate in vetting the Hendersonville candidate before any action is taken by the full board.
