Committee proposes seasonal outreach on snow removal and vegetation blocking sidewalks

Committee members proposed a future agenda item and outreach campaign to remind businesses and homeowners about snow removal responsibilities and the related problem of vegetation overgrowing sidewalks. One member said the committee has helped previously to get word out about important seasonal projects and suggested the same approach for snow removal and vegetation clearing. Staff noted the city council's ordinance review committee recently received public comment on related matters. Members described examples where vegetation growing over sidewalks forces pedestrians into green strips or the roadway and requested the city prepare messaging ahead of the fall snow season. The committee did not adopt any new enforcement policy at the meeting; members asked staff to coordinate messaging and considered placing the topic on an October or November agenda.
