Committee told Main Street will use separated bike facilities; members voiced concerns about faster e-bikes

Planning staff told the Traffic & Planning Committee that the Main Street design is moving toward fully separated bicycle facilities and that the project is nearing 100% plan submission. "We were getting ready to submit the 100% plans, that separated fully separated by facilities were the way to go," Planning staff said. Committee members asked whether staff had seen back-channel conversations about bike traffic and whether the committee should revisit the design before finalization. One member noted that "ebikes have gotten faster and heavier," and said that raises concerns about mixing speeds with other users; staff and members agreed that this is a broader issue across the network and not unique to Main Street. The committee did not change the design at the meeting; members said they would discuss design comfort and public concerns as the project reaches final design.
