Contractor mobilizes for Rocky Hill Greenway Phase 1; public warned to avoid woods during tree removal

Planning staff told the Traffic & Planning Committee that the contractor has mobilized for Rocky Hill Greenway Phase 1 and begun tree clearing along Rocky Hill Road and into adjacent woods. Planning staff said the city sent notices to listservs after contractors observed people still using the woods as a cut-through and asked residents to avoid the area while it is an active construction zone. "The first part of that is gonna be tree removal, both on the road and into the woods, so you may see that," Planning staff said. Planning staff said the bulk of construction will start "in earnest within the next couple weeks here after particularly after the tree clearing on Rocky Hill Road is, completed." Committee members and staff noted the city will work through issues that arose on the Rocky Hill Road side before major construction proceeds. The committee discussed no formal action; the update was provided as an operational briefing. The committee did not set new deadlines or adopt formal conditions during the meeting. Residents who regularly use the woods were asked to be aware that the area will be an active construction zone for "the next several months."
