Commission updates list of senior administrative assistant classifications under 'rule of the list'

The Civil Service Commission on July 15 adopted Resolution 2025-08 to refresh the official roster of job classes designated as senior administrative assistants under the commission's Rule 5, Section 8 "rule of the list" provisions.
The chief examiner explained that because positions designated under Rule 5, Section 8 perform high-responsibility duties, the certification and hiring rules for those classes are relaxed to give hiring officials more latitude to appoint deputies or confidential assistants. "It has been several years since the most recent resolution for this, so this should bring the official list up to date," the chief examiner said.
The chief examiner noted that labor-management agreements may designate additional job classes to receive similar treatment; those classes are honored in practice even if they are not listed on the resolution. Commissioners moved the resolution, called for a vote and approved it; the chief examiner stated that nothing substantive on the listed SPNs had changed since earlier resolutions and that this action is largely a housekeeping step to maintain an updated resolution.
No amendments or changes to hiring procedures beyond maintaining the up-to-date list were recorded at the meeting. The commission voted in favor and the motion passed.
