Organizers and trustees said Waunakee’s July 4 Wannaboom festival drew large crowds and ran with few incidents, with committee members reporting strong community support and new attractions for 2025.
Chris, a committee member, told the board the event went smoothly and highlighted fireworks, bands, new kids’ activities and a skydiving demonstration that had not been part of prior festivals. He thanked village staff, police, fire, EMS, volunteers and businesses for donations and support.
Committee members said preliminary attendance estimates varied; one trustee reported receiving drone footage and that some observers estimated “anywhere from 30 to 40,000 people throughout the day.” Organizers added that many attendees came from outside the village and that most activities were offered free of charge.
Chris said a minor power surge occurred late in the evening when tennis court lights were switched on; utilities staff responded and restored power. Organizers praised Justin Fredericks and utilities staff for resolving the issue quickly.
Trustees and committee members used the board meeting to publicly thank volunteers, staff and the business community for their support during the festival. No board action was required or taken on the festival report.
