Council reviews multi‑year street plan and bond scenarios to fund paving, utilities and park canopies

City staff and consultants presented a multi‑year plan to repair and resurface roughly 30 miles of city streets, repair aging water and sewer mains and add parks improvements, and outlined options to finance the work with a voter‑approved bond.

The plan, presented to the Alice City Council during a July meeting, called for a mix of chip seal, reclamation and hot‑mix paving depending on street condition and traffic. Contract engineer and longtime consultant said most streets have a sound base but need new surface treatment and that the city’s public‑works crew could perform much of the work to lower costs. The presentation listed about 100,000–160,000 linear feet of roadway work and estimated total bid‑out costs close to $14.06 million for streets alone; utilities were shown at nearly $3 million in contract prices, producing a combined figure the consultants described as “close to $15,000,000.”
