District flags cyber‑security contract change and solicits new bids for crossing guards

District staff told the Valley View School District board on July 14 that a previously approved purchase for firewall support — part of the district’s cyber‑security systems — will be brought back for reapproval at the Aug. 4 meeting because the district’s required share increased after E‑rate funding calculations. The administration said the firewall purchase had been approved at the May 12 meeting but the district's portion of the cost changed when federal E‑rate reimbursements were applied; the board will be asked to reauthorize spending on Aug. 4 to reflect the revised amount. E‑rate is a federal program that subsidizes technology services for schools. Separately, Treasurer Renich reported the district assumed responsibility for crossing guard services in 2020 and that the current contractor’s term is expiring. The district issued an invitation to bid on June 27 and opened bids July 10. Renich said a formal recommendation to renew or award the crossing guard contract will come to the board at the next meeting for approval. No contract awards were made at the July 14 meeting; both items will return for formal action with updated cost figures and recommendations.
