Valley View board opens superintendent search after Wood signals retirement next year

The Valley View School District Board of Education moved this month to start a national search for a new superintendent after President Quigley said Superintendent Dr. Wood will retire at the end of the 2025–26 school year. The board announced an application window that closes Aug. 15, plans for community input and target interview dates in September and October, and said it hopes to select a candidate by mid-November. The board said it will post the announcement on the district website and distribute it through national and state educator job banks, including the Illinois Association of School Boards and the Large Unit District Association. Quigley told the board and public that HR will collect applications and that the board will conduct a community survey to collect priorities for the next superintendent. Quigley said the timeline aims to permit a first-round interview period around mid-September (potentially Sept. 22), second-round interviews in October and a selection before Thanksgiving. He described the district as having “great facilities,” “diversity,” and a stable budget and said those features make the role attractive. Dr. Wood and board members said they will solicit community input as part of the search. The announcement is administrative: no hiring decision was made at the July 14 meeting. The district plans to provide more details about the search process and survey logistics on its website and in future meeting materials.
