Board approves freezer design contract, radios, bus DVRs and flooring repairs under bond and maintenance funds

The board approved a contract with G.S. Helms and Associates Architects for architectural services to design, bid and oversee construction of a new freezer at the district central warehouse. The district will pay the architect a fee equal to 7 percent of the cost of the work; bond funds will cover the expense. The district’s presenter said a design kickoff will occur later this summer, permitting with the city of Broken Arrow is expected, and construction timing depends on the lead time for the freezer “box.” The presenter said the project will not be ready by the start of the coming school year.
The board also approved authorization for the district to work with Magnum Construction (budgeting and bidding) for the freezer project; the procurement will follow competitive procedures and is intended to be funded with bond dollars.
Separately, the board accepted a $48,184 bid from CWC Interiors to replace flooring damaged by a water-line failure at Oliver Middle School. The presenter said the work was caused by a recent water line failure that pushed water into the building; the district expects to complete repairs in time for the first day of school.
On technology and safety purchases, the board approved the purchase of L3Harris 3325 handheld radios (three hundred twenty-five units referenced as "325" in the transcript) and two transportation master consoles for $1,039,342.72, citing pricing under the National Sourcewell contract; funding is from the 2024 bond.
