Board reauthorizes booster-funded coach stipend agreements; district says boosters reimburse payroll costs

The Regional School Unit MS 86 Board of Education unanimously approved the annual reauthorization of agreements with booster organizations to fund additional coaches for district athletic programs.
The superintendent explained the agreements are an annual practice and that boosters raise funds to provide additional coaching beyond the district's budgeted positions. She said a recent clarification requires booster payments to include payroll taxes and related employer costs so the district does not bear those expenses.
When a board member asked whether the stipend coaches were district employees, a district staff member, Donna, replied, "Yeah. They're considered our employees. So, yes, they are. And we're we pay them and then the booster funds just the boosters reimburse us." The superintendent added that the arrangement helps the athletic activities director and ensures coaches are bound by district rules.
Director Sargent moved to approve the booster-funded coach stipend agreements; Director Kreutz seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
