Superintendent Brian updated the board on hiring: the district has filled its administrative team and hired multiple teachers, including a physics teacher at the high school, and two bus drivers; it is still recruiting paraprofessionals and a handful of certified teachers.
Brian said the district had extended offers for positions at the high school and middle school and noted seven paraprofessional openings remain. He described the district’s use of alternative certification (special/special situation hires) when candidates are on track to complete state requirements; such hires are vetted internally before state application and require resubmission if the candidate’s certification is not completed within the allowed timeframe.
The board approved the consent agenda that included emergency or special-situation hires under alternative certification (names read on the record): Monica Esorio, Maria Dasa, Gracio Balero, Ricardo Escobar, Ron Wambachar, Elizabeth Jennings, Shelly Sierra Alderson and Sarah Benson. The superintendent also reported extending and posting for a public-relations officer (described as a public relations/public information role) and said the candidate’s hire will be processed through central HR.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the timeline for special-situation certification and whether hires are generally within a year of completing requirements; the superintendent said the alternative certification approvals are time-limited and must be resubmitted if progress is not maintained.
No personnel controversies were raised in the meeting; staff and the board described hiring overall as an improvement compared with several prior years.
