The Solon Board of Education on July 14 approved routine personnel actions including resignations, limited certified hires, administrative salaries and one-year rehires of retirees under state law. The board approved the resignation of assistant principal Josh Frazier, who according to the meeting was accepting a position as athletic director with Maple Heights City Schools. The board also approved an interim appointment: Louise Taringo agreed to come out of retirement to serve as interim assistant principal for one year while the district conducts a more extended search. The board approved limited contracts for several certified staff for the 2025–26 school year and noted openings that remain to be filled: a speech and language pathologist, a sixth-grade math teacher and a middle-school interventionist (the latter awaiting a background check). The board also approved tuition reimbursements and supplemental contracts for the coming school year (see separate article on extracurriculars). The board approved rehiring certain retired individuals for one year in compliance with Ohio Revised Code 3307.353 and as noted in the collective bargaining agreement with the Solon Education Association; the presenter characterized this as a statutory, one-time mechanism that can provide benefits to retiring staff while helping the district manage staffing transitions. Votes: the board approved the personnel items by voice/roll-call (motions were moved and seconded on the record; recorded roll calls during the meeting showed affirmative votes from board members present). The board welcomed interim assistant principal Taringo in the meeting; Taringo responded, "Thank you." Why it matters: these personnel actions affect school leadership and classroom staffing for the coming year and include a statutory rehire provision that the district uses to manage retirements and staffing costs. Next steps: the district said it expects to complete remaining hires by its August meeting and to continue processing required background checks and contract paperwork.
