Trustee Smith reported July 14 on information she received at a Will County Center for Economic Development "Eye Opener" breakfast. The trustee said Will County has led Illinois in job creation since 2019, adding about 15,000 jobs, and has added roughly 7,100 single-family housing units in the last five years. Smith said home-price appreciation in the county has increased by about $100,000 over five years and that county retail occupancy is near 97 percent, the highest level the county has recorded. She also said retail sales approached $13 billion last year. Smith noted Lennar's local presence and said Will County leaders view area housing gains as helping stem migration to Indiana. Smith described the breakfast as informative and said county officials highlighted Beecher favorably. The report was informational; no village action was taken on the economic metrics at the July 14 meeting.
