Resident urges Perris to address recurring yard and street drainage problem

Bertie Gibson, a Perris resident, told the City Council during the citizens forum on July 14 that persistent drainage problems near her home at the corner of Johnson Street and Sixteenth are causing street flooding and property damage.
Gibson said city staff and Councilmember Moore visited the site and “took pictures,” and that although workers “dug a little bit,” the ditch remains “stopped up” and “it can't go anywhere.” She said stormwater comes off Martin Luther King Street, flows down the hill and often “covers the road,” and that last year “a little water got in my bathroom.” She added that high water often washes out cross ties at the front of her yard.
Gibson asked the council to address the drainage so the water will have somewhere to flow. The council did not take a formal action at the meeting; the complaint was placed on the record and staff previously noted having inspected the site.
