Board approves textual fix to policy 6.312 to align discipline language with district practice

Coffee County trustees voted July 14 to remove conflicting language from policy 6.312 after staff identified wording that did not align with the district’s discipline policy. Superintendent Hargrove explained the proposed change: the word “designee” currently appears in the policy and several subsequent lines (lines 16–21) that conflict with the district’s practice. “If you struck those sentences, would put us in compliance,” he said, and asked the board for approval to remove the text so the policy matched the district’s discipline procedures. Board members noted the change is an interim fix and that the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) policy update will also be reviewed by the local policy committee later. The board approved the textual removal 6–0 so the district could immediately operate under consistent language while the formal policy review process proceeds. The superintendent said the change would be posted and the policy committee would review the full TSBA policy language when it is available.
