Board approves policy changes tied to new state rules, updates attendance and administrator provisions

The New Albany Floyd County School Board on July 14 approved second-reading updates to several policies to align with recent changes in Indiana law and association guidance, voting 7-0. Superintendent Dr. Madison summarized revisions that affect board compensation, administrator employment terms, staff employment definitions, transfers of administrators and attendance rules. Administration said Policy 0144.1 (board compensation) was updated to align with Indiana Code 20-26-4-7. Policy 15-20 was revised to clarify terms of employment for administrators; the updates also clarified that administrators defined in that policy are covered in professional-staff policy 3120. The board approved a change to Policy 3130 so that transfers of administrators, directors and managers will require board approval. The district also removed a line in Policy 05/2011 on determination of legal settlement that previously barred student transfers for athletic purposes, noting the IHSA has changed its ruling. The attendance policy 5200 was updated to reflect state changes: the district added that participation in the Indiana State Fair, education-related nonclassroom activities consistent with district goals, and scheduled competition or events offered by National FFA, Indiana FFA Association or 4‑H clubs are examples of excused absences. A trustee thanked administration for incorporating board feedback. The motion to approve the second reading was moved and seconded and passed unanimously.
