Bowling Green high school construction advances as steel, concrete GMP approved and geothermal wellfield nears completion

The Bowling Green City School District board on July 15 was updated on construction progress for the new Bowling Green High School and approved a guaranteed maximum price amendment for structural steel and building concrete. Superintendent Ted said the geothermal well field is nearly finished: “As of this afternoon, 131 of the 140 vertical wells have been drilled.”
The superintendent told the board steel and concrete bid packages returned with numbers that “came in where it needed to be,” allowing the district to proceed on the planned timeline and remain on budget. He credited the construction manager-at-risk and local project team for managing bids and costs.
Board members Brian Myers and Norm Gear were thanked as the district’s facility liaisons for their time at project meetings. The superintendent said perimeter fencing has been installed at the site and that new traffic patterns and designated drop-off and pick-up routes have been posted online to protect students and allow construction access.
The board approved the superintendent’s request, which included a guaranteed maximum price amendment covering structural steel and building concrete. The motion carried with votes in the affirmative by Mrs. Thompson, Dr. Gonyea and Mr. Gere.
District officials said they will continue monthly updates as the project progresses and will coordinate with the city to minimize disruption during the estimated two-year construction period.
