Summary

The Madison Plan Commission on July 14 approved a request to change the north setback to 34 feet for an addition to BNI Credit Union, after a presentation by the applicant and a roll-call vote.
Tim Breeding, representing Teton Corporation and speaking for BNI Credit Union, told the commission, “My name is Tim Breeding. I'm here representing Teton Corporation. We're doing an addition to BNI Credit Union for their business here in Madison.... We are altering 1 of the setbacks on this project, the north setback to 34 feet.” Aaron Wolf, CEO of BNI, was present with Breeding at the hearing.
The request was filed as application PCGB25-2. The applicant submitted drawings to planning staff member Nicole and indicated the other three setbacks would remain unchanged. A commissioner asked whether the commission had recently begun hearing setback requests for general business zones, noting past practice of not appearing before the commission for setbacks greater than 15 feet. Planning staff responded that under a 2016 ordinance, general business setbacks are set by the planning commission. Staff also told the commission that a proposed new ordinance recommends removing that requirement and setting standard setbacks administratively.
There were no public comments. After a motion and a second, the commission conducted a roll-call vote. Commissioners Van Crafton, Rick Ferris, Carl Eaglin, Patrick Tavanagh, Mike Armstrong, Jerry Ralston and Zach Laughlin voted yes; the motion carried and the alteration was approved.
The commission recorded no amendments to the application. The staff file notes the applicant’s drawings had been submitted to Nicole; no further scheduling or conditions were stated at the meeting.
Less-critical details: the commission announced earlier in the meeting that Resolution 2025-PC-1, regarding a riverfront zoning ordinance, would not be presented that evening. The BNI Credit Union item was brief and concluded the commission’s new-application agenda for the night.
