The Sandy Springs City Council approved a purchase agreement for 232 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) from Avai, along with trade‑in of old devices. Fire Chief Keith Sanders said the devices include integration with RapidSOS and GIS so dispatch and emergency responders can locate and monitor devices and receive low‑battery notifications.
Sanders said the purchase complements the city’s broader “4‑minute city” program and that sponsorships (for example from Northside Hospital) are supporting deployment of public units in parks and other locations. The approved purchase was included in the fiscal program and capital budget for the coming year, the chief said.
The council voted to approve the purchase and trade‑in agreement; staff said the devices will be deployed among city facilities, vehicles and public locations, and that the RapidSOS/GIS integration will help maintain readiness and support dispatch notification in cardiac emergencies.
Council recorded no opposition on the item. Staff said they expect the 4‑minute community AED program to be operational later in 2025, and that the purchased AEDs will be part of that broader deployment as well as serving city vehicles and buildings.
