Council commits local match to North Fulton CTP update, approves ITS and signal projects

Sandy Springs City Council voted to join neighboring North Fulton cities in a memorandum of agreement to update the North Fulton Comprehensive Transportation Plan and approved two construction contracts for traffic management projects.

Public works director Marty Martin said the Atlanta Regional Commission had made federal funds available to update the 2018 North Fulton CTP, and that ARC committed approximately $990,000 in grant funds for the study. The local match for the study totals $247,000 and Sandy Springs’ share was presented as $67,650.27; the council authorized the city to execute the MOA and to commit its local match share.

On infrastructure projects, council approved a contract award to Luminate Transportation Technologies LLC in the amount of $335,819.90 to construct an intelligent transportation system (ITS) connection to Fire Station Number 3. The project will extend fiber via directional bore and connect the station to the city’s traffic‑management network.

Council also approved a $213,007.85 contract with GTG Traffic Signals for traffic signal improvements along Hammond Drive at Lake Forest and Sandy Springs Circle to create three‑lane operations with dedicated left‑turn lanes intended to reduce crashes and improve traffic efficiency. Staff said both projects are funded from existing traffic and ITS program funds.

Martin said the city had used both contractors previously for traffic and signal work and that the projects are scheduled under the city’s traffic program. Council recorded approval of the MOA and both contract awards during the meeting without recorded opposition.
