Auditor presents city’s 2024 financial statements; council to review before approval

Missy Pierce, representing the auditing firm, presented highlights from the city’s 2024 financial statements at the July 15 council meeting and asked the council to review the documents before formally approving the audit.
“These financial statements show that the city had revenues of $27,281,000,” Missy Pierce said during her presentation. She also reported capital asset purchases of $6,587,000 for the year and said the city ended the year with a net position of $45,618,000, an increase from the prior year.
Mayor Johnson thanked the auditors for the report. The auditor recommended that councilmembers take the materials home and study them; the firm said it would be available to answer questions prior to formal approval. The transcript records no formal council vote to accept or adopt the audit during the meeting.
During the presentation, Pierce said the city’s sales tax revenue increased by $194,000 over the prior year and described the cash balance and net position in terms comparable to retained earnings for a private business. Councilmembers asked no recorded follow-up questions in the transcript; the mayor said once the audit is approved it can be provided to members of the public who request a copy.
