Board awards design contracts for three SPLOST-funded road widenings across Henry County

The Henry County Board of Commissioners on July 15 approved design contracts for three SPLOST-funded road projects: Eastlake Road widening (Highway 155 to Airline Road), Patrick Henry Parkway widening (Eagles Landing Parkway to Jodyko Road) and McDonough Parkway widening with an intersection improvement at Bridges Road.
Staff said the county solicited requests for qualifications and received multiple proposals for each project. Croix Engineering was recommended and approved for Eastlake Road (design cost presented as $2,125,050) and for McDonough Parkway plus Bridges Road intersection (design cost presented as $2,569,810). American Engineering Inc., doing business as STV Services, was recommended and approved for Patrick Henry Parkway with a design cost of $2,237,000. Funding for each design contract was identified in SPLOST 6 district project accounts and, where applicable, supplemented by intergovernmental agreements: Patrick Henry Parkway will be a joint project with the City of Stockbridge and the McDonough Parkway project is a joint effort with the City of McDonough under SPLOST 6 IGA terms.
Staff provided maps showing project extents. The Eastlake Road project would extend four lanes east of Highway 155 past the Union Grove school cluster to Airline Road; staff noted earlier SPLOST concept work showed possible extension to State Route 20 in a later program. Patrick Henry Parkway runs parallel to Interstate 75 in the Eagles Landing area and is intended to improve east-side connectivity. The McDonough Parkway contract includes design of a widening from Jonesboro Road to State Route 20 and an intersection improvement that county staff said will be compatible with potential future four-lane widening.
Commissioners emphasized intergovernmental cooperation and the countywide benefits of the projects. Each contract award was moved, seconded and approved; the public transcript records motions and approvals with “Motion carries.”
