Union Public Schools to expand Reading Partners tutoring to 10 elementary schools with $100,000 from reading-sufficiency funds

Union Public Schools on July 14 approved a one-year partnership with the nonprofit Reading Partners to expand reading-tutor services to 10 elementary schools for 2025–26, funded with $100,000 from reading-sufficiency funds, the presenter said.
Miss Kiger told the board the district will be the only one in the area with the Reading Partners program and plans to add three more sites the following year. District data from the current year showed 232 students were enrolled across six sites, 8,665 sessions delivered, 228 volunteer tutors and 33 staff and AmeriCorps tutors; the average session length was 37 minutes and the program distributed over 2,950 books for at-home libraries, Kiger said.
Board members moved and approved the contract; district staff said the program will continue to be funded from reading sufficiency funds and will target elementary students in partner schools.
Reading Partners provides trained volunteer tutors who follow a structured curriculum; administrators said the district expects the expansion to increase student access to one-on-one literacy support.
