Town begins 16x6 precast culvert replacement on Loon Lake Road with ARPA funds

The Town of Plymouth has begun construction to replace an undersized culvert on Loon Lake Road with a new 16-foot by 6-foot precast concrete box culvert, a project officials say will improve hydraulic capacity, geomorphic compatibility and aquatic organism passage. Construction began June 23 and a detour was put in place at that time.
Town Manager Scott told the Select Board the contractor is MC Build LLC and that the project is funded by unanticipated funds from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), with a total grant amount of $402,083. The additional ARPA funding allowed the town to add a construction phase to prior design and permitting work.
Officials said the detour creates a secondary access route for residents of Loon Lake Road, Jason Road and Slate Lane in the event of flooding on Fairgrounds Road, and that detour signage is in place. Scott noted the road has experienced multi-day closures from flooding in the past, citing an incident in February 2011 when the road was inaccessible for five days.
The town expects construction closeout on or about July 25 and hopes to reopen the road at that time. Board members did not take additional action at Monday's meeting beyond receiving the update.
