Dr. Miller introduced the recommendation, saying the district received nearly 20 applicants and used a two‑round interview process that included a cabinet round. “I will say once again, as I’ve said in the past, we are always very fortunate as a district to get wonderful candidates,” Dr. Miller said. He described the finalist as having elementary classroom experience, time as a summer‑school principal and district‑level coordinator experience, and said the panel heard consistent, positive feedback across evaluators.
Board members who served on the interview panel spoke in support of the choice. One trustee said, “She’s an absolute gem of a human, and we are very lucky to have you.” The board moved, seconded and approved the appointment by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Nell Kebliss spoke briefly after the vote. “I am just thrilled and honored to be here tonight,” she said. Kebliss said she is a community member with family in attendance and that she looks forward to learning alongside the Maidu community.
Board members noted the unusual timing — hiring in July rather than the more typical earlier season — and characterized the candidate as someone likely to make Maidu her professional home. The board recessed to closed session after the appointment.
