Council awards $103,287 contract for citywide catch-basin cleaning and inspection

The Glendale Common Council approved a contract with Globe Contractors for catch-basin cleaning and inspection services not to exceed $103,287.75.
City staff said the city has about 2,700 catch basins and that the contract will clean roughly 1,100 storm sewer structures and approximately 400 catch basins across the city this year. Globe submitted the lowest proposal in the city’s request for proposals; competing bids were listed at roughly $191,000 and $198,000, staff said.
“This comes from the proprietary budget, which is a total maintenance budget of about $300,000,” staff said. City staff noted that Globe — historically the firm performing much of this work — again submitted the lowest bid after the city formalized procurement.
Alderman Schmelsling moved to approve the agreement and Alderman Bailey seconded; the council approved the contract by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Staff said awarding the work allows the city to monitor delivery through the contract and provides flexibility within the maintenance budget.
