Commissioners authorize $80,000 building reuse grant application to support urgent care renovation

Alexander County commissioners voted unanimously to authorize an application to the North Carolina Department of Commerce for an $80,000 building reuse grant to assist Urgent Care of Mountain View with renovations to leased space on Macedonia Church Road. County Attorney Ben Falconberry explained the facility is currently a medical building with vacant space the urgent care plans to lease from Catawba Valley Medical Center for after-hours urgent-care services.
Falconberry said the project will create eight full-time positions — two medical providers, four medical assistants and two front-desk receptionists — and that the county's match would be 5%, or $4,000. He described Alexander County as partnering with the urgent care and Catawba Valley Medical Center to plan and oversee renovations. When asked about lease length, Falconberry said he believed "it's a 3 year lease, but I'll look into that and let you know," and that he would confirm details.
Commissioners said restoring an urgent-care option in the county filled a local need; the board approved the resolution by unanimous vote. No firm startup date was provided at the time of the presentation, and Falconberry said he would obtain specific lease and move-in scheduling information.
