Commission directs staff to issue Santa Fe Depot RFP after historical society asks permission to sublease
Summary
The commission instructed staff to publish an RFP for the Santa Fe Depot property. Earlier in citizen participation the local historical society asked the commission for written permission to sublease part of the depot for a railroad museum and to negotiate revenue sharing.
The commission directed staff to publish a request for proposals for reuse of the Santa Fe Depot and authorized staff to use roughly a nine-week solicitation window with an optional pre-submittal site visit for interested developers.
The action followed a public comment from Ken Landry, identified as museum director at the Park County Museum, who read a statement on behalf of the historical society requesting written permission for the society to sublease a portion of the depot for a railroad museum and to use a prior proposal framework that shared revenue between the city and the historical society.
Landry told the commission the historical society’s current lease does not permit subleasing without written city approval and that the society “respectfully requests written permission to sublease the depot.”
Staff said a draft RFP is ready and commissioners discussed distribution channels (local developer networks and national planning/urbanist outlets). Commissioners voted to instruct staff to publish the RFP. The motion carried in open session.
Ending: Staff will issue the RFP, host the optional pre-submittal meeting on-site, and return any responsive proposals to the commission for selection and possible contract action.
