Danielle Rushing, a volunteer with the Sweetwater Prevention Coalition, urged residents at the July 15 Rock Springs City Council meeting to participate in coalition meetings and volunteer for the coalition's annual fair outreach.
Rushing said the coalition meets once a month and that the next meeting is Thursday, July 17 at noon in the Memorial Hospital basement near the cafeteria; she said there is also a Zoom link and phone access for those who cannot attend in person. "If anyone would like to get involved and really truly get involved with suicide prevention, drug and alcohol addiction, anything that can help make life better for Wyoming, reach out to the coalition," Rushing said.
Rushing described the coalition's fair booth offerings from the previous year, including locked medication boxes, gun locks, stress balls and information on therapy, housing and food assistance. She said volunteers receive a free booth night at the fair and encouraged councilors and residents to attend or volunteer.
City council members acknowledged the invitation and one councilor said they planned to attend; Rushing said council members are typically on the coalition's email list and that meeting details had been distributed earlier in the day.
