Amphitheater near completion; council warns public about vandalism and urges reporting

Members of the Jeffersontown City Council reported progress on the new amphitheater and warned the public about recent vandalism at the site during the July 1 meeting. A parks-and-recreation committee representative said fill dirt has been placed, sod will be installed after irrigation is completed (expected within about a week), and remaining work includes electrical fixtures and light poles. "The fill dirt went in, and it looks a lot different with just that put in," the parks committee representative said, adding that the irrigation will be installed within about a week and sod will follow. The representative said electrical work and light poles remain to be completed. The mayor told residents the city has experienced repeated vandalism at the new amphitheater and praised staff for installing cameras. "If you see these people up at the park, please make sure you call the police," the mayor said, noting that vandals had previously damaged the site and that insurance claims had been filed for earlier incidents. Council members distributed posters and asked colleagues to coordinate placement to avoid duplication. There was no vote or formal enforcement action at the meeting; council members asked the public to report vandalism and for police to investigate ongoing incidents.
