At the July 15 meeting of the Rock Springs City Council, resident Mark DeLong raised concerns about a commercial roofing operation he said is operating at a residential corner lot near Merchant and Thompson streets. DeLong told the council the site had metal roofing materials scattered and not weighted down; he worried the materials could be picked up in a windstorm and injure people, particularly children at nearby low-income housing.
"In a good windstorm... piece of metal get up in the wind, they're done," Mark DeLong said, describing the potential hazard and saying he had photographs. DeLong asked for a contact number to send photos to city staff. Council and staff members directed him to send photos to a staff member identified as Jeff for follow-up.
Councilors did not take immediate enforcement action on the record during the meeting; staff acknowledged the complaint and invited DeLong to provide evidence so the city can investigate whether the activity violates zoning or safety regulations.
