Board approves multiple facilities contracts: trash removal, sprinkler and piping repairs, plumbing controls

The Exeter Township School Board approved a set of facilities and maintenance contracts July 15 addressing waste removal, sprinkler repairs and plumbing controls across the district.
The board authorized the district to participate in the Berks County Joint Purchasing Board bid for trash removal services; the contract was awarded to Republic Services for a two-year period from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2027.
The board also approved Johnson Controls quotations to install a main drain for the wet sprinkler riser in the junior high and to replace a corroded 4-inch sprinkler piping section leaking at Jacksonwald Elementary. Administrators said the work is necessary maintenance on existing fire-suppression systems and that Johnson Controls was selected because of its service relationship to those systems.
The board approved Berkshire Mechanical and Denny's Electric proposals for plumbing-related work at the senior high and junior high. During discussion a board member asked why an electrical contractor was involved; staff explained that shower mixing valves and related temperature controls in the junior high are electrical systems requiring an electrician.
All facilities items were seconded and approved by voice vote. Board members were told the district is addressing corroded components now to prevent more serious failures.
Separately, the board approved a quotation to replace corroded OS&Y valve components at the junior high and other urgent repairs flagged by facilities staff. Administrators indicated they are prioritizing repairs to prevent service interruptions and safety hazards.
The board's facilities and transportation chair presented the items as routine but time-sensitive maintenance work; the motions passed without amendment.
