Resident urges code-enforcement action over trash, falling gutters at 3305; councilmember pledges follow-up

During the public-comment portion of the Jeffersontown City Council meeting on July 1, a resident identified as Jones asked the council to enforce property-maintenance rules at a neighboring house, citing trash in the backyard, falling gutters and missing shutters. Jones said he had filed prior complaints but that code enforcement responded that "we saw no infraction" when the resident observed ongoing problems. "I take care of my property. The house next door has trash in the backyard," Jones said, identifying the address as 3305. He also told the council that the neighbor had parked vehicles on a front yard and that prior citation had not produced lasting compliance. A council member (name not recorded in the transcript) responded that they would follow up. "I will personally call you tomorrow on this. I will talk to Ron about it ... and I'm gonna make a trip over there," that council member said. The council member later suggested stronger fines against negligent landlords to prompt compliance.
