The Law and Ordinance Committee reported closing several open items and reviewed local landlord-tenant enforcement activity at the council meeting. Committee members said they closed a file on speed transition concerns and planned the installation of snow-removal and one-sided parking signs on West Haven Drive. The committee reported the traffic speed concern on North Vine Street was closed after the city reestablished a portable flashing speed sign from storage and said residents can expect to see that sign deployed in the near future. The committee reviewed a landlord and tenant rights data report and said that over the past year there were two complaints filed and three referrals made to the health department; the committee noted this appears to have encouraged better property maintenance and said the existence of the city’s legislation and its authority to conduct home inspections has affected landlord behavior. Resident Deb Tyson asked about the city’s legislation for electric bicycles and scooters during the meeting’s committee report; the mayor asked the committee to consider main-street aspects of a previously proposed road-diet so staff could proceed with a Main Street-only project. The Law and Ordinance Committee set its next meeting for Aug. 19 at 5:15 p.m. in council chambers.
