Jefferson County 4‑H Fair leaders report record participation and thank county for ongoing support

Patrick (Jefferson County 4‑H Fair representative) updated the council on the fair’s scale, participation and community impact and thanked the county for ongoing support. "This year, we had 479 participants, and we have 86 adults that work with those participants," he said, adding the participants completed 2,742 projects. He reported a record livestock auction that sold 191 animals and raised $442,600, money he said largely goes back to the youth.
Fair leaders told the council they donated more than 4,000 pounds of beef, 9,100 pounds of pork and about 1,400 pounds of lamb to House of Hope and described partnerships with local businesses, foundations and churches that support infrastructure and programming. The presenter said average yearly fair attendance is about 20,000 people and that the fair’s facilities have been improved with support from several foundations, which helps sustain youth participation.
The fair representative said the organization has requested the same county funding amount as in prior years and noted rising costs from insurance, utilities and other inflationary pressures. He thanked the county for support and invited questions; county staff did not take formal action during the presentation.
