The Dearborn County Board of Commissioners adopted Ordinance 2025-008 to establish a sheriff’s federal forfeiture fund to receive funds related to federal seizures and forfeitures. County staff said the fund will be subject to appropriation by council when and if funds are received.
Staff explained the sheriff already maintains a fund for state and local forfeitures and requested a separate fund to account for seizures and forfeitures that involve federal agencies. The board adopted the ordinance by motion and voice vote.
During discussion, staff and commissioners referenced a fund number. Connie stated the fund number is 3941, while another speaker referenced 4927; the meeting record shows both numbers were mentioned. The ordinance number recorded during the meeting was 2025008.
No dollar amounts were associated with the new fund at the time of adoption; staff said any receipts into the fund would be subject to the normal appropriation process before spending.
The ordinance establishes accounting structure only; any use of funds will occur after council review and appropriation.
