The Milton Parks and Recreation Department reported strong summer participation on Monday, highlighting swim lessons with more than 400 participants, a rapidly growing dance program and ongoing youth sports and open‑swim offerings.
Director Lance (last name not provided in the record) told the board the department was finishing seasonal baseball and softball leagues and multiple sessions of swim lessons; the third swim session ran into July and the department expects the final session to conclude later in July. He said the department restructured swim sessions to increase capacity and that the program served many community children for water‑safety instruction.
Lance also reported the community dance program reached about 165 students and that staff are exploring moving to multiple sessions to accommodate demand. Other offerings included lap swim, morning and evening sessions, water Zumba, pool parties and martial‑arts partnerships, as well as fall flag football signups and continued participation in regional youth leagues.
Board members praised the programs and highlighted the community benefit of broad participation; one member noted large turnout at youth T‑ball and more than 200 local children playing in some sessions. Lance said staff are exploring additional offerings such as community‑level volleyball leagues and parent‑taught lessons to expand options.
No board action was required on the report; staff will continue planning programs for the fall and will provide updates on registration and capacity.
