At the elementary level the handbook removes the fixed formula that previously specified a time‑based homework expectation (for example, 10 minutes per grade level) and replaces it with descriptive language about homework’s purpose as practice and reinforcement rather than punishment. Middle‑school sections showed no substantive changes, while the high‑school handbook adds clearer procedures for cell‑phone use in classrooms and a new section addressing AI and academic honesty.
Administrators said cell phones will continue to be allowed in classrooms in general but that the district has clarified expectations and added practical measures such as cell‑phone caddies in each classroom; teachers can require use of the caddies as part of classroom procedure. The handbook also updates references to Title IX and related board policies.
Principals were available to answer board members’ questions about specific policy links and the district said it would work to improve document links so the public can navigate directly to referenced board policies. The handbooks are shared as Google Docs to allow principals to walk the board through edits and answer specific questions.
The board did not take a final vote on the handbook at the meeting; administrators invited questions and said the handbooks will be finalized after any additional clarifying edits and prior to publication for families.
