Longview School District directors used part of the study session to revisit board subcommittees and the district’s updated organizational chart. Directors evaluated which committees need monthly meetings and which could shift to quarterly or 'as‑needed' rhythms given cabinet staffing changes.
The board reviewed a draft organizational chart reflecting recent personnel moves: a new executive director of student services, an executive director of employee services, and redistributed responsibilities for categorical programs. Staff noted some committees have become more operational while others are strategic.
Directors generally agreed that policy, finance/facilities/technology, and curriculum and instruction need frequent engagement; several directors recommended keeping finance and curriculum committees monthly because budget and instructional adoptions require more frequent oversight. Other topic areas—employee services, communications/community relations—were described as candidates for quarterly meetings or alternating monthly focus (for example, employee services one month, student services the next), so directors and cabinet members are not required to attend every month.
Board members asked staff to clarify which committees are community advisory bodies (for example, a facility advisory committee and a budget advisory committee made up of community members) versus board subcommittees (board member groups that meet under OPMA). They also asked staff to update committee descriptions and return revised charters aligned to the new org chart.
No formal committee reassignments were adopted at the study session; staff will prepare a revised committee schedule and updated committee descriptions for future consideration.
