Several directors said they prefer that parents, rather than board members or central office staff, accompany students on overnight trips when budgets allow; travel should be “when funding allows.” One director said practices vary across districts and recommended developing formal rules for chaperoning, curfews and rooming before committing district funds.
Board members asked staff to follow up with principals about Discovery inclusion and to provide clearer expectations for the student‑rep role, including whether student reps should be juniors or seniors and whether they should coordinate with ASB executive boards. No formal changes were adopted at the study session.
