Tricia McCheskey, a Shippensburg Township resident and parent, addressed the board to describe ongoing advocacy work in memory of her son Levi and to announce the formation of the Live Like Levi Foundation.
McCheskey said Pennsylvania state senators are preparing a resolution to designate August as Social Media Safety and Parental Awareness Week to raise awareness about online dangers for young people. "The intent of the resolution is to help remind parents, educators, and administrators of the dangers of social media and help raise awareness as we approach the beginning of the school year," she said.
She said the foundation will focus on scholarships, charitable giving, community support initiatives and educational resources, and announced a remembrance event scheduled for Aug. 20. McCheskey urged the district to continue and expand digital‑safety and digital‑citizenship curricula and said she will be involved with legislative and federal advocacy efforts.
Discussion vs. decisions: the remarks were public comment and informational; there was no board action recorded on the topic during the meeting.
Ending: McCheskey closed by inviting district staff and the community to collaborate on safety education and by previewing promotional items and the first annual memorial event connected to the foundation.
