Health department says camps ran smoothly; staff to clarify camp definition in off‑season
Southborough health staff reported July 15 that the 2025 camp season proceeded without major problems and that most operators were already familiar with permitting requirements, but the department will use the off‑season to clarify what local programs meet the town’s definition of a camp.
Chris, the department staff member who oversees camp inspections, said the busiest month (June) went smoothly and that the department had about a half dozen camps in town this year, with one starting next week and another in August. He said many operators “know the drill,” but the department found several programs that labeled themselves as clinics or other program types yet met the town’s regulatory definition of a camp. Staff said they will do more outreach in the off‑season to reduce confusion and set expectations so program operators understand when the camp permit process applies.
No enforcement actions were reported; staff said they will continue outreach and training ahead of next season.
