District confirms new classroom materials arriving; PD Palooza trainings scheduled

District staff told the Warwick County School Board that newly adopted instructional materials are arriving and that the district has scheduled a multi‑day professional development event to train staff.
A staff member reported the board recently approved Carolina Biological in the spring and that the district has ‘‘all of those crates here at our warehouse’’ and is sending the first crate to schools. The vendor will provide on‑site training during the district’s PD Palooza. Staff also said the Quaver music subscription has been processed and is ready, and that social studies and other online resources are coming online.
On the math adoption, staff said they approved Reveal for sixth through eighth grades and that training with Reveal is scheduled for July 30; demo online accounts are available now, and official teacher accounts are expected by August 1. Staff noted higher‑level and AP materials from vendors such as Cengage were adopted but that some of those courses did not include vendor professional development because teachers are already familiar with the subjects.
Staff said PD Palooza will include sessions on crisis prevention and de‑escalation, special education supports, and department‑led trainings delivered primarily by district teachers for teacher colleagues. The district also plans all‑day science training during PD Palooza and invited board members to observe sessions.
Staff emphasized that PD Palooza sessions are voluntary and that participants receive a daily stipend; sessions are open to certified and non‑certified staff.
