District schedules ‘page‑turn’ workshop on Meadowview secure‑entry and larger facilities plan

District staff told the board that design and development drawings for the Meadowview secure entrance and broader facilities projects are nearing a milestone and that the district will hold a pre‑meeting “page‑turn” workshop immediately before the Aug. 28 board meeting to present renderings and gather public feedback.
The construction manager and architects — identified in the meeting as Market & Johnson and Bray — will be present for the page‑turn, during which attendees will review high‑level renderings of Meadowview’s secure vestibule, main office and circulation, and conceptual views of the district along Black River Street. Staff said interior program elements are still changeable, but that walls and major massing are approaching finalization, which will allow more precise budget estimates.
Administration described a phased schedule: Meadowview secure entrance is the immediate focus (design and development drawings due the coming Friday), followed by Sparta High School work, then cafeteria/fine arts/auditorium, tech‑ed, gym/locker rooms and other campus updates. Staff said bids are planned for December and that the district will continue stakeholder engagement through August and subsequent sessions.
Project specifics discussed included accessibility, parking and spectator amenities for baseball and the track. A consultant who reviewed the baseball field advised that the field foundation was “well above average” but identified needs for the home‑plate pitcher’s mound and drainage behind first base. The board was told those upgrades could be made without wholesale reconstruction but that accessibility, parking, press box and restroom upgrades will be part of later design phases.
Separately, staff reported progress on the South Side bus drop and pick‑up project and interior capital improvements at Montessori and Southside schools, and reminded the board that summer work at the South Side site is advancing. Board members and staff encouraged public turnout at the page‑turn and scheduled engagement opportunities in August; more detailed budgets will be available in the August report.
