Village reports wastewater overflows tied to heavy rain; membrane repaired, gates installation planned

Village administrators told council on July 14 that the wastewater system experienced four overflows in June, largely because of heavy rain and one membrane being out of service. The village administrator said the membrane issue has been fixed and that planned gate installations at the wastewater plant in August will reduce the likelihood of future overflows.
Village Administrator Matt Niehiser reported that staff are clearing sludge beds to enable gate work and that operations have improved since the membrane returned to service. He also said David Allen transferred to the wastewater department on July 7 to support operations. Administrators noted there have been no overflows in July so far despite recent rain events.
Council asked for continued monitoring; administrators said the gate installation schedule and the membrane repair should significantly reduce the occurrence of overflows. No formal action was taken beyond noting the capital-improvement schedule and staffing updates.
