Temple ISD trustees on July 14 reviewed and accepted an advocacy timeline produced in partnership with Raise Your Hand Texas that sets out steps for developing and promoting the district’s legislative priorities through the 2027 session cycle.
The timeline calls for legislator accountability outreach in fall 2025, identification of ‘‘power pockets’’ and key stakeholders in April 2026, a series of listening circles between June and October 2026, and creation of a legislative priority agenda in November 2026. The plan also includes pre‑session board lunches with the district’s state senator and two state representatives and public release of the district’s legislative agenda in January 2027, followed by bill tracking during the 2027 session.
Superintendent Doctor Ott described the timeline as a “tangible blueprint” that memorializes the district’s advocacy process so future boards and staff can continue the work regardless of personnel changes. Trustees said previous advocacy visits had been successful and the timeline institutionalizes steps such as stakeholder engagement and capital visits to the Capitol.
Board members did not adopt a formal legislative platform at the meeting; instead they approved the timeline and next steps for compiling priorities later this year and into next. Staff said the timeline would be posted on the district website and used to guide outreach to parents, business leaders and other community stakeholders when drafting priorities.
The timeline is intended to help the district coordinate meetings with legislators, track bills during the session and plan local engagement activities to support the district’s policy goals. No new budget appropriation or contract was approved at the meeting in connection with the timeline.
