Temple ISD board names Lamar Middle School competition field for Bridal Dusick

The Temple ISD Board of Trustees on July 14 approved the policy committee’s recommendation to name the competition field at Lamar Middle School after alumnus Bridal Dusick. The naming was approved during the board’s consent and discussion items; trustees moved and seconded the measure and it passed unanimously.

The board’s policy committee had received nominations via the district’s online form and forwarded a recommended list; the committee selected Dusick’s name for the Lamar field. Board materials say the district’s naming process follows board policy CW(local), which directs the superintendent to solicit and vet nominations and sends recommendations to the board for final approval.

District staff summarized Dusick’s ties to the campus and community: Dusick played football at Lamar Junior High and Temple High School, graduated in 1969, played collegiately at Texas A&M, and later played professionally in the National Football League. The board noted Dusick is a member of the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame and the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame.

Trustee Myers moved approval; the motion was seconded and the board voted in favor. The board asked staff to notify Dusick’s daughter, Kimmy, and coordinate a ceremonial presentation before a Lamar game. Staff also said they would order the scoreboard placard with the new name.

This action is a local naming decision under board policy and does not change campus operations or budgets aside from the anticipated cost of signage. The board did not discuss any alternative names at the public meeting.

District staff will follow up with the family to set the event date and schedule installation of the field signage.
