Kent swears in two officers as deputy chief highlights public-safety activities

Deputy Chief Matt Stansfield presented a public-safety report to the council July 15 and introduced two newly hired Kent Police officers who were sworn in during the meeting.
Stansfield asked Officer Nahid Shahimi Hashimi and Officer Clayton Walls to come forward and provided short biographies. Stansfield said Hashimi was born in Iran, grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Simon Fraser University; Stansfield noted her ability to speak languages used in the Afghan community and her first dan in Taekwondo. Stansfield described Walls as having grown up in Auburn, attended Auburn Mountain View High School and Green River College, and working previously for Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife in local hatcheries.
Mayor Dana Ralph administered the oath of office for the two officers. The swearing-in proceeded with the standard oath to the United States, the state of Washington and the city of Kent and included a pledge to obey Kent Police Department rules and regulations.
Stansfield closed the report after the introductions and the council did not take any additional action beyond recognizing the new officers.
