Rio Grande City EDC names Melinda Gomez interim executive director

The Rio Grande City Economic Development Corporation voted after an executive session to appoint Melinda Gomez as interim executive director. The board took the action during an open meeting following a closed executive session under Chapter 551 of the Texas Government Code. Members moved to approve items discussed in executive session and later formalized the appointment of Melinda Gomez as interim executive director. The motion to appoint Melinda Gomez was moved and seconded on the record and the board approved the appointment; the record notes that one member, Luvigasa, did not vote on items A, B, C or D. After the vote, Melinda Gomez said, "Thank you for the opportunity, and I will continue to do the best that I can. And until at what point you find somebody better." Board members discussed the appointment after returning from executive session and then made a motion on the record to appoint Gomez; that motion was seconded and approved. No additional conditions or employment terms beyond the interim appointment were specified on the public record. The board had earlier moved the item to executive session for consultation with counsel and for personnel-related discussion under Texas Government Code Chapter 551, sections 551.071 and 551.087. The public portion of the meeting resumed later that evening and the board recorded the action.
